September is Healthy Aging Month. This is a great time to take a good look at how you are aging and what you can do to take more control of your health and your future.
We all age; some of us age better or slower than others, some age longer than others and we all know someone who doesn’t seem to age at all. What about you? Williams Bros. Health Care Pharmacy works with people of all ages and health types. We have manual wheelchairs, power wheelchairs and hundreds of other products for people who are either recovering from or living with an illness or injury, or simply need assistance as they age. We know that every person has different needs, and that’s why we’re here.
How can we assist with your healthy aging? Here are some ideas:
The best way to keep your mind sharp and keep dementia at bay is by keeping your mind active. Check with your local County Extension office. Every county has one and they are a wealth of information and classes, many of which are either free or very affordable. Call them or search online.
Shut off the TV! TV is a passive activity that has been proven to actually dull our brains. Try reading a book, doing puzzles, gardening, going to hear a lecture or even listening to books on tape instead. It’s okay to have some TV in your life (news and educational programs) but watching mind numbing programs is not good for the brain…or anything else.
Consider taking college courses. Non-traditional student numbers are growing on campuses across the country. These more experienced students are prized by teachers for the better attitudes, love of learning and input they offer in class. Many courses are offered at night and online that accommodate busy schedules or people who may have problems with mobility.
Consider taking a class or go back to school. Many local community colleges offer classes on hundreds of different subjects and interests. Choose from classes on anything from painting, pottery, photography, cooking, basket weaving, you name it, it’s out there!
Williams Bros. Health Care Pharmacy wants you to stay age healthy!
