5 Things to Consider When Buying a Lift Chair

Posted on: December 28th, 2016 by WilliamBros Blogger

If your loved one is having difficulty getting up and down from a sofa or chair, it might be time to consider purchasing them a power lift chair. Enjoy these tips on picking out the right lift chair, courtesy of Williams Brothers Healthcare Pharmacy:

  • How many positions does the lift chair have?

You’ll soon notice that lift chairs come with descriptions such as “2 position,” “3 position,” or “infinite position.” The difference between a 2 and 3 position is that a 3 position can go into full recline, while a 2 position only allows for a 45-degree angle. Infinite position lift chairs come with two motors that allow the footrest to move independently of the back portion, allowing for a wide range of positions.

  • Is this lift chair the right size for my relative?

Just like regular recliners, lift chairs come in a variety of sizes. In order for your relative to feel completely comfortable, you need to make sure you get the right one for them. If it’s too big, their feet may not touch the floor when sitting straight up. If it’s too small, it could cause a strain on their lower back.

  • What type of covering should I get?

Does your loved one have a problem with incontinence? If so, it might be best to forgo the cloth-covered lift chair and get one with leather instead. Do they have a tendency to sweat a lot? In that case, the cloth one will better serve them.

  • What does their space look like?

Most models slide out and backwards, which could be a problem if your loved one’s living room doesn’t have a lot of space. Ask about the special models that can start against the wall and slide open without banging into the area behind it.

  • What are the lift chair’s features?

A lift chair can come with a variety of amenities, from heated seats to cup holders to lift speed variation to vibrating seats. If your relative experiences aches and pains, these features can be very soothing on them.
